Rainer Malzbender, CEO/CTO

Rainer has over 40 years experience in technology development and leadership. As an independent consultant he developed products in a variety of fields, including LIDAR for autonomous vehicles, high resolution satellite remote sensing, medical imaging, and cancer research. As an engineering leader at Displaytech, he was instrumental in raising 9-figure investments from Samsung and HP and helped develop one of the world’s first HDTVs with Samsung. Displaytech was sold to Micron Technology.

Rainer has an AB degree in Physics from Princeton University, and a PhD in Physics from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He was captain of the Princeton Track and Field team and enjoys backpacking, skiing, and travel. He is an instrument-rated private pilot. His best friends are dogs.

Pamela Clifton, VP Sales/Marketing

Pam was the president and founder of RPM Frontline Solutions, an organization that supports businesses and nonprofits with communications, marketing, training, and strategic planning. She led the company’s marketing, strategic planning, and training efforts supporting clients like Home Box Office, Inc., Comcast, DirecTV, The Reentry Initiative, Voces Unidas, the League of Women Voters, and others. Prior to striking out on her own, she was an account executive at Home Box Office in New York and Denver and held positions at Manufacturer’s Hanover and Estee Lauder in New York.

Pam is a member of Zonta International and led the creation of its 501(c)(3) Zonta Foothills Foundation, which now provides upwards of $100,000 annually for scholarships, mentorship, and advocacy programs for women and girls, locally and around the world. Pam is a member of the Boulder Valley Schools Title IX Advisory Council and Cantabile, a 50-voice auditioned choir. Pam is a graduate of Princeton University. When she’s not in the office or on a Zoom, Pam is on the trail with her dogs.

Jake Janovetz

Jake is the founder and CTO of Opal Kelly Incorporated, an electronics company delivering FPGA-based modules and the FrontPanel SDK to the instrumentation, data acquisition, and control industries for rapid prototyping, proof-of-concept, and production deployment. He is also the founder and president of Aligni Incorporated, a SaaS company providing PLM and MRP solutions to companies, particularly within the electronics industry, that “make stuff”.

In addition to helping tech companies maximize their potential through these tools, Jake is interested in tennis, paddling, snowboarding, and hiking. He also walks dogs.

Charles A. Miller

Chuck has 25+ years of experience in marketing, business development and small business ownership. He has co-founded four start-up ventures, two of which were acquired. Chuck is credited with generating, developing and cultivating profitable businesses, from start-ups to multinationals. Chuck has strong expertise in developing effective marketing and sales strategies for B2B companies in the life sciences, healthcare and technology market sectors.

Chuck is the current Managing Partner at CEMA Ventures LLC. Prior to taking on this role, he served as Founder & President at The Market Element LLC, which was acquired by CG Life in 2020. In 2009, Chuck was a founding member and Director of Marketing & Business Operations of a scientific instrumentation start-up company in Boulder, CO (picoSpin LLC), that was sold to Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2012. Chuck is currently serving as a Board Member for TecTraum, Q Magnetics and the Miller Family Foundation.

Chuck holds a B.S. in business administration from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS and an MBA from the University of Colorado at Boulder, CO.

Charles E. Miller

Charles is Founder and President of CEMA Ventures LLC, a technology, real estate, and economic development investment company.

Charles received a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1960 and his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1962. From 1960 to 1967 he was employed by the National Bureau of Standards as an R&D engineer in Cryogenic Instrumentation. From 1967 to 2001 he served as President/CEO of Engineering Measurements Company (EMCO), a public company he founded to develop and market advanced instrumentation for the measurement and control of liquids and gases. He was also Chairman and co-founder of Instrutech, picoSpin, LLC, and FlowPro LLC, and served on the Boards of Measurement Auditors Company, Tienet Inc, Metratech, and Regional Air Group.

Committed to philanthropic efforts, Charles and his wife Carol established the Miller Family Foundation, which supports a number of domestic and international non-profit organizations. His dog Toby is a regular at the EveryDrop offices.

John Price

Since his undergraduate days as a physics major at Yale and his time as a Ph.D. student, John has been excited by scientific instruments of all kinds. His past projects include an electrometer able to detect a single electron, a SQUID susceptometer, a microwave bridge for mesoscopic electronics, a detector of gravity at sub-millimeter scales, a cryogenic dielectric spectrometer, and an acoustic waveguide reflectometer. While still on the faculty at the University of Colorado, his interests turned to permanent-magnet NMR, and he led the team that developed the picoSpin-45 and picoSpin-80 spectrometers, introduced in 2010 and 2013. He retired from academia in 2020, and now works full-time on NMR technology running Q Magnetics, makers of the world’s highest resolution benchtop NMR machine. John’s profile on Google Scholar.

Tom Roling

Tom has 30 + years of experience in print advertising and database marketing. He has served as a managing and client facing Account Director at Epsilon for 19 years. During his tenure at Epsilon, Tom helped 80+ clients develop and deploy multi-channel marketing campaigns through the use of one of the largest transactional and compiled databases in the U.S.

Strong relational skills and an account service background are the hallmark of his career. Prior to joining Epsilon, he was an Account Executive at G.A Wright Direct Marketing; and at Communigraphics Corp., a high-end sheet fed printer. Before moving to Boulder, CO in 1991, Tom served as Account Executive at Roling & Davis Advertising, handling account service on national brands such as Bike Athletic, Motorola, Inc. and Hartmarx Corporation. Tom’s expertise in account and project management, along with strong analytical insight, help him in the areas of managing various real estate enterprises and developing new opportunities for CEMA Ventures LLC. He is also a broker at The Colorado Group, Inc, a commercial real estate brokerage located in Boulder, CO. He received a B.A. degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from Drake University in 1985.

Barry Welch

Barry started his 30+ year investment career as a financial services executive for John Hancock Financial Services, leading a bond and corporate finance group with over $50B of internal and third-party assets. He transitioned to CEO of public independent power start-up Atlantic Power (NYSE: AT). At Atlantic he raised $3B in public and private debt and equity capital, and grew the firm from four employees at its IPO to a fully integrated operating company with 350+ employees, while distributing over $600M in dividends to shareholders. Atlantic Power was acquired in a private equity transaction in 2021.

Barry currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Onward Energy, formed from the merger of Novatus Energy and Southwest Generation, where he was a director and Chairman, respectively. He is an independent director of HA Sustainable Infrastructure Capital (NYSE: HASI) and an independent director of Aspen Power. He was previously an independent director of TransMontaigne Partners (NYSE: TLP).

Barry has a BSE degree in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering from Princeton University and an MBA/Finance from Boston College. Barry’s dogs vary in number depending on which of his kids is visiting.
